Dear Mr Jeyes

FOLLOW-UP TO THE STANDARD INSPECTION OF McLAREN HIGH SCHOOL STIRLING COUNCIL

The report on McLaren High School was published in September 1998. HM Inspectors visited the school in May 2000 and found that good or satisfactory progress had been made in meeting three of the five main points for action in the report. HM Inspectors made a further visit in April 2001 to evaluate progress made in responding to the main points for action in the report.

The headteacher and the school had responded very well to the findings of the 2000 inspection visit with sustained efforts to implement both recommendations. There had also been significant further progress in taking forward the other points for action in the original report. In particular, more systematic arrangements had been introduced for the monitoring by senior promoted staff of learning and teaching. As a result of the good progress which has been made, HM Inspectors will not make any further visits to the school in connection with the 1998 report.

I attach an evaluation and brief account of the response made by the school and the education authority to the main points for action in the report.

I am sending a copy of this letter to parents of children currently in the school and the other recipients of the inspection report.

Yours sincerely

Dr Gill Robinson HM Chief Inspector Eastern Division
