How do I get information from HMIE?

As of 1 July, HMIE will become part of Education Scotland.  For an initial period, any requests about the work of HMIE will be responded to by Education Scotland.  If you have a request, please send it to: enquiries@educationscotland.gov.uk or the address below.

HMIE have produced a publication scheme as required by the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, which will continue to be followed until the publication scheme for Education Scotland is created.  This describes the information that we publish, in what form it is published, and details of any charges for providing the information.

You can access the HMIE publication scheme here.  The publication scheme does not list all of the information held or published by HMIE.  If the information you require is not included in the publication scheme you can search our website or submit a written request for it to:

In responding to requests we will do so in accordance with the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.  When we disclose information in response to a Freedom of Information request we will consider whether this material is of interest to the public at large as well as the original applicant.  In such cases, we intend to make this information accessible to the wider audience via our website within 24 hours of the information being released to the original applicant.
